Pompoen potloodtekening (wallpaper)

Een pompoen (Latijn: Cucurbita) is een groente soort afkomstig uit Noord-Amerika. Maar het groeit ook in Europese landen. Je kunt een pompoen gemakkelijk herkennen aan zijn typische oranje kleur. Het bevat vele zaden en vruchtvlees. Ze kunnen heel groot worden, sommige pompoenen wegen wel 450 Kg (1000 pounds).

In de Verenigde Staten wordt de pompoen met Thanksgiving gebruikt in maaltijden, een traditioneel gebeuren die nu ook stilaan in Europa wordt ingeburgerd. Nadat het vruchtvlees in de maaltijd wordt verwerkt wordt de uitgeholde pompen als decoratie gebruikt. Kinderen vinden het zelfs leuk om er een gezichtje in te snijden en de uitgeholde pompoen te versieren met kaarsen.

Als groente is de pompoen vooral gebruikt voor soep en pompoen-taart.

Grieken noemenden de pompoen 'grote meloenen'. De oudste pompoen-zaden ooit dateren van rond 7000 jaar voor Christus, gevonden in Mexico.

A pumpkin (Latin: Cucurbita) is a native vegetable of North America. But it's also grows in European country's. It has a typical orange color. It includes a lot of seeds and pulp. A pumpkin can grow very large, some pumpkin's has even grown to a 1000 pounds (450 Kg's).

It's traditionally used in Thanksgiving meals in the US. Hollowed pumpkin's are than been used as decorations. Children like to carve a face in the pumkin and decorate it with candles inside.

As vegetable the pumpkin is uses for soups. But also pumpkin pie is very popular.

Trough the history, Greek people called it the 'large melon'. The oldest pumpkin seeds ever found dating around 7000 BC, in Mexico.

Palm tree's does me dreaming of vacations on white beaches, where you can find coconuts and lots of summer sun. They grow in hot climates like rainforest, desserts but also on small islands. In history palm tree's exist for almost 80 million years ago. The outer shell of the coconuts are used to make ropes, doormats and brushes.
